Functieomschrijving Staff immigration officer

The staff immigration officer is responsible for applying for visas, residence permits and work permits. As part of a team you advise and guide non-EU staff on immigration procedures and related aspects. Direct contact and good relationships with international staff, internal departments and external organizations are an important part of the job.

Your duties

  • carrying out all immigration processes independently in accordance with the Dutch immigration regulations and internal policies
  • planning and organizing work and monitoring visa status and deadlines
  • general communication, liaison, collection and review of documents received.
  • preparation of paperwork for immigration application submission
  • handle enquiries from different stakeholders on latest rules and regulations and status on individual cases
  • Updating HRM and Immigration IT systems promptly and accurately
  • contribute to a welcoming and international atmosphere
  • contribute to the quality assurance of our services

Functievereisten Staff immigration officer

  • completed education at HBO level
  • experience with (complex) Dutch immigration procedures
  • Have an eye for detail and the ability to work within the confines of legislation, policy and procedure
  • experience with supporting internationals coming to the Netherlands
  • a strong service-oriented, proactive and welcoming attitude
  • strong intercultural communication skills are a must, along with the ability to build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • excellent communicating skills in English and Dutch (verbal and in writing)
  • stress resistant character

Arbeidsvoorwaarden & aanvullende info

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,818 (scale 8) and a maximum €3,724 (scale 8), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for 0.6 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year, with the possibility of a permanent contract.

International Office
VU’s International Office drafts VU’s international strategy, advises board and faculties on matters of internationalization, and offers international services to students and staff.
VU’s IO is a centralized office in which all support for internationalization is concentrated. This includes international marketing, international student recruitment and admissions, housing and immigration support for students and staff, international student exchange, organization of VU’s Summerschool and Semester abroad program, international staff and PhD recruitment, International research and capacity building projects, international policy and business development. The office currently hosts 75 employees.
